Managing your API key on our website #
When using our Sierra Chart–related services, your account is authenticated and authorized through a unique API key that you generate yourself.
On the My API Keys page, you can view all of your previously created and currently active API keys – including their creation date, status, and expiration time. If you don’t have any valid keys, or your last one has expired, you can easily generate a new one by clicking the button at the top of the page. After the API key generated, you can copy it only once. This is for security reasons, we never store the actual key in our database – only a securely encrypted version. If you lose it, you’ll need to generate a new one.
You’ll receive an email each time you generate a new API key and another when an existing one becomes invalid. These strict security measures are designed to ensure that only you can access the services you’ve subscribed to.
Adding the API key to Sierra Chart #
Once you’ve copied your API key, create a file named “_t2t_api_key.txt” inside your Sierra Chart’s Data folder, and paste only the API key into it. For example if you installed Sierra Chart to “C:\Programs\SierraChart”, you must place it into “C:\Programs\SierraChart\Data”, so it must have an absolute path of “C:\Programs\SierraChart\Data\_t2t_api_key.txt”.
Our Advanced Custom Studies automatically look for this file when communicating with our servers, using your API key to verify your access.
If your API key is missing, invalid, or expired, Sierra Chart will display a clear message in the Message Log with instructions on how to resolve the issue.
All communication between Sierra Chart and our servers is sent over HTTPS encryption, ensuring your data remains private and fully protected during transmission.
What is an API key? #
An API key is a secure, randomly generated code that acts like a digital access card. It identifies you to our servers and proves that you have permission to use our services. Think of it as your personal key that unlocks the Tick2Tick features connected to your Sierra Chart platform.
